Sara Kelemen

Sara is the USDA Northeast Climate Hub Dairy Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program ORISE Fellow, and Project Coordinator for all USDA Northeast Climate Hub projects.

After completing an MS in Plant, Soil, and Environmental Science at the University of Maine, Sara joined the Northeast Climate Hub as the Project Coordinator, as well as in an ORISE Fellowship position leading the Dairy Climate Adaptation and Mitigation program. As an ORISE Fellow, Sara implements programming to assist dairy farmers and agricultural advisors in responding to the effects of climate change with educational resources and peer-to-peer learning opportunities. In her role as project coordinator, Sara tracks all Hub projects to promote success, timely reporting, and information sharing.

Previous to joining the USDA Northeast Climate Hub, Sara assisted in developing the on-farm mitigation curriculum for the Climate Adaptation Fellowship pilot program for vegetable and small fruit producers in the northeast. Farm resilience in the face of a changing climate has always been a key driver of Sara’s research interests. Her graduate research work focused on farmer adoption of soil health practices and perceived barriers to adoption. In addition, she also studied farmer perceptions of novel payment for carbon and ecosystem services programs.
