Dealing with Drought in Forests, Grasslands, and Rangelands

The U.S. Forest Service and USDA Climate Hubs convened regional workshops in many of the nine Forest Service regions throughout 2017.

The workshops helped develop a set of local strategies and tactics to reduce, mitigate, and, in some cases, recover from the effects of drought. Summaries of these workshop proceedings, workgroup recommendations, and supporting documentation are available. Workshop participants examined the role drought or water surplus plays in delivering a suite of ecosystem services, such as carbon sequestration, wood fiber, clean and abundant water, critical habitat for plants, fish and wildlife, and for recreation on forests, grasslands, and rangelands.
